Milk rate calculator
Fat and SNF in, rate per litre and total amount out. Both the fat-only model used across most of Pakistan and the fat + SNF formula used by Indian cooperatives.
How milk is priced
Milk is not bought by volume alone — it is bought by what is in it. Two suppliers delivering ten litres each can be paid quite differently, and the difference is fat and solids-not-fat.
The fat-only model
A base rate is set at a standard fat percentage — typically 6.0% for buffalo and 4.0% for cow milk — and the rate moves up or down by a fixed amount for every 0.1% the sample deviates from that standard. Simple to explain to a farmer, simple to calculate, and the dominant model in Pakistan.
The fat + SNF model
Rate per litre = (FAT × fat rate) + (SNF × SNF rate) + base. It prices both components independently and is standard across Indian dairy cooperatives. Fairer to the farmer, but harder to explain at the counter.
A word on trust
Whichever model you use, the thing that keeps farmers is being able to show your working. A supplier who can see the fat reading, the rate that was applied and the arithmetic that produced their payment does not come back to argue about it — and a supplier who cannot, eventually goes somewhere else.
Settle a rate dispute in thirty seconds
Lactra stores the raw analyzer reading, the rate chart version that was applied, and the rule path that produced the number — for every single collection.
