How to read a feed price
Price per bag is the wrong comparison. Two feeds at the same bag price can differ by several percentage points of crude protein, and the cheaper-looking one can cost more per litre of milk it produces.
Compare on cost per kilogram of crude protein, and then on feed cost per litre at your own yields. A feed that is 8% dearer but lifts yield 12% is cheaper.
Do the arithmetic on your own herd
Take your current wanda price per kilogram, your actual daily intake per milking animal, and your actual average yield. That gives feed cost per litre — the only figure on which two feeds can be honestly compared.
Track this against your own yields
Lactra records what you actually paid for feed and what your animals actually produced, then computes feed cost per litre daily — so a price change shows up in your margin the same week.
