For buffalo farms

Buffalo dairy farm software

Buffalo is 43 of Pakistan's 72 million tonnes of annual milk production. Almost every dairy system on the market treats it as a cattle record with the label changed.

Species

What is actually different

Gestation

Around 310 days for Nili Ravi and Murrah, up to 315 for Kundi — roughly a month longer than a cow. A due date computed on 283 days has you expecting a calf a month early.

Standard fat

6.0% rather than 4.0%, which changes every rate calculation, every quality benchmark and every alert threshold.

Lactation curve

A different shape, with a lower peak and different persistency. Projections built on a cattle curve are simply wrong.

Heat expression

Weaker and harder to detect, especially in summer. Detection-rate benchmarks borrowed from cattle produce alerts nobody trusts, and alerts nobody trusts get switched off.

Seasonality

Marked seasonal breeding patterns that cattle-derived reproduction models do not account for.

Breeds supported by name. Nili Ravi, Kundi, Murrah, Azakhaili, Surti and crosses — each with its own defaults rather than one generic “buffalo” setting.

Questions

Common questions

Where do the buffalo benchmarks come from?

Published research where it exists, and configurable per farm where it does not. Cattle extension benchmarks do not transfer, and we would rather say so than quietly reuse them.

Can I run cattle and buffalo in one herd?

Yes. Mixed herds are normal here and each animal carries its own species defaults.
