Feed management and cost per litre

Feed is 55–65% of milk income. It is the biggest number on the farm and usually the least well measured.

Detail

What it does

Feed master

Green fodder, silage, hay, concentrate, minerals and additives, each with unit, supplier and cost.

Daily consumption

Recorded at group or shed level, allocated per animal by group size. Feed cost per animal per day and per litre produced.

Rations

Named rations with ingredient quantities, computed cost per head per day, assigned to groups.

Income over feed cost

Milk income minus feed cost, per cow per day — computed at individual and herd level, and including dry cows, whose IOFC is negative and whose omission flatters the herd number badly.

Silage & fodder

Area, harvest, yield and cost of production, feeding into inventory at cost.

Days of cover

Reorder alerts based on actual consumption rate, not a static minimum.

Questions

Common questions

Do you balance rations against nutrient requirements?

Not in the current release. Ration definition and costing are there; full nutrient balancing against DM, CP, ME and NDF is on the roadmap.

Can I track wanda prices?

Yes, as feed items with dated purchase costs — so your cost per litre moves when the market does.
